If you want to access root user in Ubuntu then follow these step :
sudo -i passwdroot
vim /etc/gdm3/custom.conf
[...]
[security]
Allowroot=true
[xdmcp]
[...]
vim /etc/pam.d/gdm-password
[...]
#auth required pam_success_if.so user !=root quiet=success
[...]
Save both files and boom you can now access root account on Ubuntu.
